Home' Aurora : Aurora February 2013 Contents Waking up
BY LOUISE GANNON RSJ
The Catholic Church across Australia is in the middle of a Year of Grace: an
invitation from the Australian Catholic Bishops to all Catholics to refocus their
lives on Jesus and to contemplate Christ. So across the nation, including our
local Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, people are waking up to Grace and
sharing stories about how this is impacting on their lives. Aurora has been
sharing some of these over most of last year in this 'Seasons of Grace' column.
And as we heard in these stories and know from our personal experience,
Grace surprises us as we discover it in the most unexpected places.
Often the experience of contemplation and Grace cannot be captured in words.
Often, art and images best convey the depth and wonder of these experiences.
The Grace Project is an initiative of the diocese which invites all people -- of all
ages and artistic ability -- to submit for exhibition, an art work that conveys their
personal experience of Grace. It is hoped The Grace Project will help us all to
wake up to Grace, as it invites us to pause and to contemplate Christ through
the eyes and experience of a range of people.
The Grace Project is a virtual art
exhibition with two exhibitions hosted on
the diocesan website. The first exhibition
is now showing and is predominantly the
work of primary school students who took
time in the last weeks of 2012 to reflect on
and share their moments of Grace.
The closing date for the second exhibition is 8 April. We hope that the first
exhibition will inspire more people to submit entries for the second one. To visit
the exhibition and for entry details log on to
Enjoy the experience, and may it lead you into a deeper awareness of the
graced moments in your life.
