The services provided by CatholicCare's
Night Care Van are severely limited at
present -- can you help? Please see page 5.

Our cover this month is a little more
stylised than usual. I want r eader s to
be aware of the largely unsung work of
CatholicCare Social Ser vices (CCSS) Night
Care Van which has been providing a much-
needed ser vice in Islington Park for sever al
years now. The van has deterior ated from
constant use and is no longer 'park-wor thy'
so couldn't be photographed in action.
CCSS would love to be able to replace the
van and when you read Lisa Short's story
on page 5, you will understand. Perhaps you
will be able to assist.
Following plucky Ayen Dong's stor y last
month, Tinah De Luca-Tohi wrote : "What
stands out to me in this situation is the
ready assistance from Sr Diana and the
Catholic Church. The money required to
get the family over the border was made
available ver y quickly. These stories of
assistance to the needy from our church are
r arely known. The media chooses to focus
on the negative stories only, but the church
is doing so much to help those in need."
There was much interest in the giveaway
copy of Hugh Mackay's The Good Life and
the lucky winner is Eva Hassett of East
Maitland. Are you a fan of "Doc Mar tin"?
I am, in spite of Doc Mar tin Ellingham's
signature gr uffness ! Recently Louisa, the
hapless Mrs Ellingham, told the Doc that
she wasn't happy, and asked if he was
happy. He never betr ays the slightest sign
of happiness , so his answer -- "Why does
everyone have to be happy all the time? " --
Pope Fr ancis has something to say to Doc
Mar tin -- and all of us - in his exhor tation
Evangelii Gaudium : "There ar e Christians
whose lives seem like Lent without Easter."
Lent sometimes gets a narrow rap, and
I was delighted to read of Bishop Greg
Thompson's creative initiative, "Paradiso",
a Lenten film festival at Christ Church

Diocesan Co-ordinator of Seasons for
Growth, Benita Tait, reflects this month on
the season of gr ace that is Lent. "I'm hopeful
that the Lenten pr actices we engage in,
individually and as a family. . .become genuine
oppor tunities for renewal."
A feature of the local Lenten calendar
is the annual ecumenical Way of the
Cross on Sunday 6 April at Kilaben Bay.
Ever yone is welcome to join Bishop Bill and
many members of our parish and school
communities in this traditional obser vance.

World Autism Awareness Day is on 2 April,
