The photo below is one Kir ralee asked to
be taken, so I publish it here as a tribute to
her, in loving memory of a special soul, now
resting in the ar ms of her God.
The profile of one of our cover stars last
month is such that the image and story
entered the Twitter verse. Thanks Zac
Gar red for putting Aurora out there, and I
look for ward to updating reader s on the
progress of Zac and Tom Ar thur's film, The
Ballad of Les Darcy. For me, the highlight of
Liam Beckett's feature was the strength of
the relationship between these childhood
friends who are working together to
tr anslate a dream -- literally, in Zac's case --
to the cinema screen.
As winter begins , I hope you will find much
to warm you in this edition.

I'm sure many reader s will remember the
story under the banner, "Two By Two"
in March, telling of the lovely r elationship
between seven-year-old Kirralee Walton
of Corpus Christi Primary, War atah, and
Alicia Jenkins, teacher at St Catherine's
Catholic College, Singleton. This pair
shared a lively sense of humour, a love of
bright colour s, and living with shor t stature.
I have to pass on the sad news of Kir r alee's
death late in April, too late to acknowledge
in the May edition of Aurora. As I wrote to
Kirr alee's parents, Kathr yn and Kristian, and
younger brother, Koby, "No one who met
Kirr alee would forget her : her intelligence,
her self-deprecating humour, her maturity
beyond her years, her bright and disar ming
Dominican Sr Jenny Ger athy brought
gospel wisdom to Kir ralee's funer al liturgy:
"On 29 April the time came for you,
Kirr alee, to make that final journey to see
your loving God face to face, and as if in
the twinkling of an eye you heard that call,
said 'Yes', and were gone from our midst
towards the ar ms of your loving God.
Thank you for your joy, your laughter, the
love with which you embraced life. You
were indeed a child of God. May we now
go and do the same, sharing the goodness
of God in each of us."
