Two Upper Hunter schools have been
awarded fir st place in their respective
categories for outstanding design in
the recently judged "Huntlee -- What's
Your Bright Idea? " competition.
The competition invited students to
submit ideas for a 'dream park' at the
planned town of Huntlee. The park will
be the centrepiece of the town and
students' submissions were creative
With what was described by judges
as ". . .a thoughtful and carefully planned
submission with outstanding relevance
to activities and history", Rosary Park
at Br anx ton took out the Primar y
Schools category -- winning a $5000
prize! Year 3 students involved
in the design said they wanted to
focus on how communities changed
over time, by including ar tworks
representing Dreamtime stories of the
local Wonnar ua people and creating
opportunities for people to lear n about
how the area was used previously.
Year 3 teacher Katrina Edser said her
students were thrilled by the win.
"They put such a lot of thought and
imagination into their plan, and it was
a wonderful learning experience."
St Catherine's Catholic College,
Singleton was also successful,
taking fir st place in the Secondar y
Categor y with a design that "was of a
professional level...and showed great
ingenuity. . ." which also saw the
school win $5000.
